avoid STDsRicardus touched on avoiding STDs a little in "Dodging the Dangers of Sex (and Dating)", though his focus there was more on some of the other dangers that can arise; and I have a post on the forums that covers a good chunk of what we'll talk about in this article here: "Re: The Dangers of Sex." However, I wanted to clean that information up and put it in a more presentable (and scannable) way - hence, this post.

When you're relatively inexperienced with women, it's easy to get freaked out about STDs. Typically, the more sexually experienced you get, the less of a "big deal" these seem like... and, generally, the more likely you are to run into them.

Yet, if you're smart, and you do your homework, it is possible to avoid STDs almost entirely, even while having lots of sex with lots of partners... BUT, you must do your homework, and you must be on top of the ball at all times, because if you're trusting your own sexual health will be looked out for by that pretty stranger you just met (after all, she seems so innocent...), you've got another thing coming.

Hey chase just had a question on your opinion of the pull-out method. I found this article http://rhrealitycheck.org/article/2013/09/11/the-pullout-generation-is-h...
Which states that it only has a failure rate of 4 out of 100 pregnancies per year for a couple relative to condoms failure rate of 2 out of 100. Anyway I would be interested to hear your opinion and experience on this method. Thank you!

Hey Chase,

I know it's an old article but I'm in a very tight situation and really could use your help if you have the time.

So, 2 months ago my LTR girlfriend got a positive pap-smear.We were having unprotected sex for a long time, since she was tested before and she was found clean, but apparently either I had the virus or she had it, hidden away.

The thing is she wants to continue to have unprotected sex since her doctor said we can't have it any worse; both of us have it and it won't change. But you say that receiving a new batch of viral load every now or then inhibits your immune system's effort to supress the virus. But it's a real issue because she's used to having sex with me condom-less and so she's very resistant about that.

The thing is I don't know how to handle this. How to start using condoms, how to deal with her drama about that, should I dump her and leave my body alone sex-less to deal with the infection etc. Also, if I break up with her, will I be able to have normal sex life? I am so excited to use every little thing I've read here and I CERTAINLY do not want to feel that my current girl is the only one who would put up with my infection because she has it too..! Talking about scarcity..!

Thanks in advance man,

Brad.

HIV risk from vaginal exposure is certainly not almost a zero. As you stated rough estimate per exposure is 1;2500 for women to man vaginal transmission. However, this risk would increase and not decrease, as you said with other factors like high viral load of a partner 6-12 weeks after contracting virus (increased risk 26 fold making it 1:100 exposure for men) having other STD like herpes as you mentioned, but also other like gonorhea or chlamydia, would increase this risk 8 fold according to some resources. Your final conclusion that it doesnt matter protected or unprotected HIV transmission is impossible is complete bull....
