Packaging matters significantly, so it’s really not surprising that there are quite a few superb articles here at GirlsChase that help us become sexy.

Today I would like to expand this list by sharing an article that can be considered the men’s style equivalent of the pick-up line – simple, practical, and, when executed perfectly, one that will get results. Just as a pick-up line is an answer to the very broad topic of “well, what do I say?”, this article will offer you a canned answer to another just as broad topic: “well, what do I wear?”

But enough with the analogies – let me explain what I have prepared for you today. In this article we’ll discuss six different outfits, for different situations, all designed to help you get one result: look sexy.

As we all have different preferences for our personal style, we’ll split these outfits into three categories:

  • Elegant edgy
  • Rugged masculine
  • Classy and smart

This way we’ll not only make sure that there’s a look suitable for everyone, but also show you that there’s more than one sexy look, and that not everyone needs to go out looking like a rock star or a preppy nice guy.

do you have anything specifically for short guys since you say most of these are less than ideal? I'm 5'4 160lbs with hard lean muscle & broad shoulders. Any advice?

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Sure,

Any style can work with shorter stature as long as you follow few simple strategies:

-Avoid high contrast between upper and lower body (i.e. if you're wearing a dark jacket, pick dark jeans too)

-Avoid baggy clothes (applies to everyone :) )

-Chelsea boots, work boots, combat books all with sizeable heel are your friends.

-Low rise jeans will make your torso look longer.

-Avoid jackets that cover your butt (or longer), your legs will appear longer.

-Use accessories to draw attention to your chest / shoulders.

-Avoid shoulder length hairstyles.

-Stick with thinner belts.

-Avoid large prints on tees and shirts.

Hope this helps!

Good job nailing the different looks that get a woman's interest. I like that you didn't add that doofy preppy look that most nice guys wear (Ralph Lauren, Vineyard Vines, etc.) Looking like a preppy grandfather doesn't get you women... these looks do.

Cheers,
Justin

Haha, spot on - let's leave the nice guy look for those who want to meet her parents.

Interesting advices that seem a little bit on advanced side, but maybe you have list of ideas that are completely simple and can be applied in any case, with any kind of style, because I usually struggle with simple details like how keep one or another type of clothes/shoes at the best shape possible to look like decent or sexy guy.

Anyway, from your name I would guess you're from Lithuania, and it's kinda strange to see somebody from such tiny country on this site giving such fabulous advices.

Hm... sounds like a great idea for an article - "Bare Essentials For Looking Attractive", now we just need Chase's stamp of approval :)

But to be actually helpful, these are the areas you should focus on first and foremost:

-Make sure your clothes are always clean and ironed (if you're scared about damage wash your clothes in lower temperature or even by hands.)
-Fit is king, queen and the whole royal family.
-Quality > quantity (a good piece will last longer and will be more price efficient than a bunch of low quality alternatives if maintained properly)
-Add 1 - 2 accessories to your current looks, be subtle at first.
-Check out the following articles for more tips:

A question concerning colors to be worn :
Well, everyone knows that darker colors look great on men with
light skin tones whereas brighter colors compliment the man with dark skin.
I'm a dark skinned guy.
But I want to look " darkly " seductive, just like those sexy vampire guys
on TV ( ex: vampire diaries)
The problem is, all those guys have a fairly white skin so their black outfits
just look so great.
They've got the "mysterious" look. This is what I want to achieve.
I want to be both darkly and mysteriously seductive.
How can I do that if black colors don't look so sexy on me?
Any help please.

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey,

Let me first note, that dark clothes and fair skin tend look good only when the wearer has dark hair too. If dark clothes are combined with pale skin and blond hair, they would completely overwhelm the natural features (not ideal.)

Dark and mysterious - sounds like a solid plan!

First tip, instead of black pick other darker shades of other colors: purple, burgundy, grey, brown.

Now, to get the mysterious effect you don't necessarily need to look like someone from The Matrix movies.

Few tips:

-Mix styles, be hard to read. For example, add an edgier piece to an otherwise classy outfit.
-Differentiate yourself from the crowd. Have 1 or 2 pieces that look unique, stand out (just make sure they don't look weird). Avoid dressing like every other guy in the venue.
-Scarfs are awesome for stylishly hiding some of your features and in turn adding mystery.
-Consider going for medium or slightly longer hairstyle and rock facial hair (not suitable for every situation)
-Make sure you have the body language, demeanor that goes well with the look.

All in all, dark colors help, but are not mandatory to create a mysterious look.

Hope this helps

Great article! I have actually put together a few similar looks before even reading the article. Aside from substituting V-Necks and Henleys for the scoop necks (personal preference), I love your choices! Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff!

One thing I'd be interested in hearing about is how to dress stylishly in places with really cold winters. I'm from the Southern US, so our winters tend to be pretty mild, but this year is gearing up to be super cold. Plus, I'll be taking a trip to NYC in January, so I'm beginning to put together my winter wardrobe.

Most winter style guides that I've seen are only appropriate for mild winters, and super cold weather gear tends to make you look like the Michelin Man or like you're gearing up for a hike. I'd love to hear your take on what alternatives, if any, are available for these types of situations!

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Thank you!

-20 C (-4 F) winters and colder are not uncommon here so I get the pain. And you're absolutely right, most winter-gear makes us look ridiculous (loving the Michelin Man reference, very accurate!)

The best approach I found is going for thick wool coats and multiple layers underneath (wool knitwear + buttoned shirt is a good combo), add a thick scarf, leather gloves with fur and you can keep yourself quite warm. Also make sure to keep your feet warm, boots are great for this.

subzz's picture

Any thing you can suggest for day game in a tropical city(temp 30-35 C). my skin tone is brown ,hair black.
Currently i wear slim fit polo and jeans combo with one or two attention grabbing pieces or slim fit sexy looking shirts...

And nice to see you as a girlchase writer and "office look" is doing well :)

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey subzzz,

Great to hear from you and glad your office look is working as expected :)

Tees / polos / sexy buttoned shirts are pretty much mandatory for your upper body in that heat (I'm so jealous right now haha). You could go for ripped jeans if you want an edgier look or a pair of bolder linen trousers, like bright red (salmon), just nothing too bold (worn with white casual buttoned shirt).

Stingray's picture

Hey Darius,

Thank you for this great article. It's just wonderful reading this article made me realize knowing to dress up is important in giving people certain image. I'm sure many guys out there reading this will have similar realization. When I recall sexy men Ive seen on street, they can be fit into one of those above categories.

Just a question, for skinny jeans what do you think about wearing women skinny jeans? I love the ones that are skin tight, and caress my leg when I walk ; p

Thanks!

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey Stingray,

You're right, it takes just moments for people to make a first impression of us, so we might as well do our job to point them in the right direction to increase the odds of falling into the woman's "oh wow, I'd like to get into his pants" category.

To answer your question, in theory there's nothing wrong with going for women's skinny jeans (and for some guys of shorter stature that their best bet for skinny jeans). You could put women's jeans under men's jeans section in a store and 9 out of 10 guys would have no clue they are buying something that's supposedly designed for women.

And yet, in most cases it's just unnecessary - brands like Zara have skinny elastic jeans specifically designed for men that does the job.

Hope this helps

What if you wanted to dress like a goth? (Wearing all black with certain accesories like chain wallets, spike wristbands, fingerless gloves, and skull necklaces). Would that give a good first impression? P.S. what vibe/ personality types would go best with the look?

What about denim jackets? if you do it in a GQ way?

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Sure, though finding stylish pieces can still be a bit difficult. Still, denim shirts and jackets are very viable with certain looks (also because most guys are slow to catch up with this look, it's a nice way to differentiate yourself from the crowd. I wouldn't be too surprised if in a couple of years every other guy would own one). Couple of ideas:

It is a great article, and 90% of it i agree.
Although one look struck me a bit, especially for the venue selection.

-Look 4. The Elegant Bad Boy
-The Right Venue
Bars and clubs. It’s a bit too intense for day game (especially if you’re going with skinny jeans)

Personally, i don`t agree with this.
In my opinion, a waistcoat is an item best used for daytime.

I use classic black shoes, blue slim jeans (maybe they are skinny - don`t know exactly what you mean by skinny/ not skinny), black belt, white shirt tucked in, black waistcoat and a jacket ( biker jacket ).
In winter, instead of shoes i get black classic boots, and instead of the jacket i use an overcoat.

Now why is this combination best used for night time and why do you think it is very intense for day time?

Maybe i am wrong, but i think using this combination is best for day time, especially in cold winter days.
As for night time, wouldn`t it be hot with the waistcoat on you in a club with people dancing around?

Am curious to know why exactly do you think that it is too intense for day time...

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey,

Great question.

First off, those small variations (classic shoes over Chelsea, how tight the cut is on jeans, waistcoat's design, how tight the jacket is; for example, picking coat over biker jacket is a solid way to move it further on the "classy" scale) is the difference between stylish / well-dressed and raw / sexual. Waistcoat as a piece of clothing is great for day time by the way.

If executed as explained Look 4. would draw a lot of attention during the day, considering most people are a bit more chill / casual in their attire. If you can stay unaffected by this attention (or even thrive on it) - more power to you, it's a great look and there's nothing from the technical aspect that makes it unsuitable for day time. Simply put, most guys won't be able to pull it off.

Heck, I occasionally pull a very similar look during the day when I feel like getting an "ego-boost" from the attention :)

Thank you Mr. Anonymous for sharing this, it really does mean a lot!

(I just hope it's not against the rules haha)

Anonymous's picture

Hey,

Well, i didn`t mean a biker biker jacket, but a plain leather jacket :)

Although a coat over that kind of a jacket would be better classy style.
But what i had in mind was for that specific Look 4.

Now, don`t get me wrong, i rarely go for that kind of style because frankly put, people here don`t spend much time on looking good, so i would stand out anyway.

I would have no problem with the attention, as looking good and well dressed really boosts up my confidence level.

What i was thinking was the combination best suited for, lets say, casual Thursdays ?

Because for Fridays and Saturdays i go for more stylish, classy choice of clothes.

I change from jeans to pants, from leather jacket to a coat or a blazer ( weather dependent ).

What caught my eye was your "way to intense for day time" sentence.
Like i said, i wouldn`t be having any problem with the attention, but will that kind of a look during the day have side effects ??

Darius Bright's picture

Well, you will quite obviously notice women checking you out way more often. Quite likely, you will also notice people in service (cashiers, baristas, etc.; mostly women though) suddenly act friendlier, get chatty. On the other hand, a not-so-friendly remark or two from random insecure guys also might happen.

You can slightly "tone it down" by sticking with slim fit jeans instead of skinny-elastic that molds around your legs almost like yoga pants for women :) (On the downside you'll probably won't hear women behind you giggling and discussing how good your butt looks)

At least those are my experiences with this look and it's "side effects". On a more serious note, as mentioned in previous reply, there's nothing in this look that makes it technically inappropriate for day time.

By the way, this "as looking good and well dressed really boosts up my confidence level." feeling is actually very real. There's a study that shows we tend to assume the qualities we associate with a particular outfit. In other words, if you think you're wearing your "sexy outfit" you're more likely to feel and act in a sexual way.

Anonymous's picture

Well, those "side effects" aren`t that harmful :)

Indeed, i have noticed having warmer and friendlier act from women who are bartenders, cashiers when i have been dressed up the part.

I have even noticed women completely checking me out two-three times from head to toe, from toe to head without even realizing they are doing that.

Indeed my confidence levels are high when i am dressed like i should be.

Thanks for the reply and the advice.
Looking forward to your next article.

Regards.

Wow all those styles look amazing. I think I might need to go shopping so that more women are attracted my my look. I am not that good in chosing when it comes to clothes, but will try my best ;) I will also print out the looks on this page and take it with me.

Darius,

I'm currently trying to upgrade my fashion sense, so this kind of detailed article is a godsend. Thanks!

Can I ask you to link me to the bracelets (or similarly styled pieces) in looks 1 and 4? I'm having trouble finding matches.

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey mate,

I don't have the links with me now but both of them were taken from Asos.com -> Men's Accessories.

They might be sold out by now (or not), in anyway, you should be able to find plenty of very viable alternatives there.

Cheers

Asos.com was all I needed! Immediately found what I was looking for. :)

And as an aside, I'd never seen this asos until now, holy crap, its pretty great!

This background will help a bit or be ENTIRELY irrelevant :) lol

I'm a DJ/Music Producer who is 19 years old...

People have told me I'm: Sexy, Subtle, Charming, Smooth, Quiet Confidence, Edge (Bad Boy), and that I've "always been mad real"

I've always been the social rebel. i.e dropped out of school. I'm educated though, speak well, knowledgable in history and philosophy and psychology and music.

Point is, I've always been 'ahead' of people my age (was forced to grow up rather young), fascinated by James Bond since I was 11, focused on style and facial expressions since 7th and 8th grade, obsessed with body language and posture since I was in 9th grade, etc.

With aspirations of owning my own rec. studio, being a musician and being told I'm smooth (which has always been natural, I've been told I could sell Ice Cubes to and Eskimo)

I'm finally moving back down to Miami, FL. (Which btw, is great for meeting more sexual women.) after really working on my weight etc. Which style would you recommend? Just the way you wrote the post makes me think you'll be spot on.

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Your background helps, but you didn't mention the most important part - what qualities would YOU like to convey when people see/meet you?

bjcrispi's picture

A mix of sexy (Brad Pitt in Fight Club, entire red leather outfit, solid dress shirt though) and Classy Lad (that coat in blood red)

Smooth guy/Musician Classy Lad, a bit more sexual.. Not so much that career opportunities are being passed by. Also, it is for Miami weather.

Does that help?

-B

Darius's picture

Yes, it paints a much clearer picture.

From the looks mentioned in this article, I'd say No 4. The Elegant Bad Boy would be the closest to what you want to convey.

Biker leather jacket, a slightly distressed jeans, a bracelet or two - all add edginess to your persona, however, a dress shirt and a vest (I'll go for a more classical, yet slim, cut) keeps it in balance, for that "I know what I'm doing effect"

In other words you'll look edgy enough to belong in the music business, not that edgy to look unreliable, shady - I'd say that's a perfect combo.

Feel free to check my site (link in the by-line) for more outfit inspirations like that, I do them quite often.

Hope this helps

Many jokes have been made about him, but I think using a Google image search of "Colin Farrell" will reveal a lot of what you're probably looking for.

I tend to kind of go for the "bad boy/still classy" look myself, and I believe he has just the perfect mix in a lot of his attire. He also wears MANY different styles and actually has a very diverse taste in fashion, which gives you plenty of options to choose from.

Brad Pitt actually has some taste crossover with Colin Farrell, but it's like Darius already said: "What qualities do YOU want to convey with your fashion?"

P.S. I'm an avid electronic music listener and follower; many of my friends are DJs and/or are aspiring to become producers.

Way cool, I obsessed with anything house. What genres do you like? (Btw, is this a qualifying question? Don't understand qualifying too much, and is qualifying a good or bad thing? lol)

Just looked over Colin Farrell's style and I noticed the variety in his taste. Great tips, thanks for that.

Brad Pitt Look:

Franco Lombardi's picture

Wrapping it up, I want to convey, "This guy is definitely doing his own thing, he's got class, panache, and he's a sexy guy."

Gotcha. I've given my suggestion, so I'll let Darius reply here if he wants to with any other tips specifically for you.

Way cool, I obsessed with anything house. What genres do you like? (Btw, is this a qualifying question? Don't understand qualifying too much, and is qualifying a good or bad thing? lol)

I'm mostly into (hard) electro music, but I also enjoy a flurry of other genres. House, Glitch, Drum 'n' Bass, Dubstep, Drumstep, Psytrance are all within the realm of what I listen to. I'm not so much into Progressive or Trance, especially at live events, but I don't hate them or anything. Just prefer the "harder" stuff when it's a live show. =)

EDIT: It can be seen as a qualifying question... although it probably depends on context. If the girl knows you're a DJ and obviously have "superior" knowledge on the subject, then she'll probably figure that you'll judge her for her answer. And at that point, it can be seen as "qualifying" if she's trying to give you a complete answer that is to your satisfaction.

Something I've been wanting to ask for a while - Darius, any opinions on colour palates for us asians? I'm aiming for classy/edgy a lot of the time, but I get the impression that my colour choices (muted tones, lot of browns and black) arent getting the results/attention I'm aiming for.

Author
Darius Bright's picture

"Asian" is a little broad as depending on where exactly you're from and your lifestyle your skin tone can be very different.

EffortlessGent has prepared a pretty good chart on colors and skin tone: http://www.effortlessgent.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/EG_dressForYour...

Still,

I'd like to draw your attention to the most important aspect - you're not getting results you're aiming for.

I would start introducing more color to your outfits and see the feedback. Don't over do it at first, one - two items at a time. A lot of guys, who are going for classy/edgy, put themselves way too far into the conservative side to get any noticeable results.

Hope this helps

killerman's picture

Hey Darius, last few weeks been thinking of clothes to improve my appearence, and what to get. There's a denim jacket I have that I've worn for a while. Is it a sexy, edgy enough look that I should carry on wearing it or should I drop it?

Author
Darius Bright's picture

Hey killerman,

Denim jacket would fall under casual rugged-masculine category and they are, indeed, getting back in favor last couple of years (together with denim shirts).

That said, they are quite difficult to pull off. Because they are still not that popular and by wearing one you will fall under one of two categories: "that stylish, cool guy" or "he looks like my creepy uncle, who makes bad jokes"

In which category you would fall would depend on the color, cut and other design aspects (like pockets, wash, etc.) of the jacket and, of course, cut. By default, if it's not cut close to the body you don't want to wear it as our goal is by all means avoid looking like you found that jacket in your dad's closet.

And of course, any mistake in the rest of the outfit would only be emphasized, so the execution needs to be spot on.

That said, if you do pull it off right, you'd look sexy and I plan on expanding my own wardrobe by including some denim upperwear this spring.
