Getting into seduction mode generally requires I switch to a present-orientation that is not so native to me (part of why I started out in nightclubs as a heavy drinker. Alcohol tends to make you must more present-orientated. When I am up to my eyeballs in things I am trying to do, and someone causes an interruption to that or pulls me off track, I am prone to being very testy. I have things to do, things I must do now to end up where I\u0027d like to be later, and a disruption to that is messing everything up.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI couldn\u0027t say if there\u0027s an agreeableness link to time-orientation... maybe there is.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBut I\u0027ve definitely known past-focused people who were plenty disagreeable -- all they\u0027d talk about is regrets and what-ifs while arguing with anyone who tried to help them focus on what they could accomplish now. And many of the future-oriented folks I know who are swimming in things they\u0027re trying to accomplish to get to where they want to be tend to be hotheads One of his apprentices (he\u2019d train other guys to pick up girls) pissed off a couple of big, muscular guys by hitting on their girls once. My friend went over, spent a minute with the muscular guys, and pretty soon they and him were all laughing and having a great time. It stuck in my head and became a model for me in dealing with those types of situations. He was an intense character but it was a happy intensity. I never once saw him angry.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen I was new to bars and nightclubs I used to get pissed off all the time. I\u2019d get angry about girls rejecting me, I\u2019d get angry about men in the venue mistreating me; I was just going around very aggravated a lot. However, I also knew that wasn\u2019t productive, so I\u2019d be constantly telling myself to calm down and figure out how to deal with situations in a productive way. After a few years I\u2019d been through enough different situations I didn\u2019t get affected by much of it anymore. A girl could ditch me, a guy could be rude to me, what have you, and, well, them\u2019s the shakes sometimes. They have fewer and fewer uncontrolled outbursts and instead direct that energy in more productive directions.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI used to think I was slow-tempered because I\u2019d cultivated this very Zen-like persona. But people who knew me well would disagree with me on that and tell me I still had a temper. Then I had an inordinately disagreeable girlfriend for whom none of my Zen-like strategies would work, and I resorted to letting my temper out any time she let hers out with me, and it was like some of my programming was undone. A couple years ago I realized I\u2019d given my temper too much free reign again (it hadn\u2019t been that free since second grade!) and I needed to wind it back in.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThere seems to be a degree of \u201ccaring what people think\u201d that a guy can have that differs wildly between seducers and interplays with the disagreeable element. I care a lot about what people think, so I try to curb my temper, and use that energy. From there on, the natural dynamic is that the woman is dependent on the man to provide shelter and stability as she rears the children. That\u2019s obviously had a bunch of monkey wrenches thrown into it in the West by child support laws, no fault divorce, and various systemic changes that aim to \u2018empower women\u2019 and disempower men, breaking down the family in the process.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EMy personal philosophy is that a man needs to be independent, as free from the reach of the state as possible.
