Yeah, of course openers change the way you play the game (like in chess or Starcraft for example), but does it change enough to the point of separating those like totally different views of game?\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nActually, Starcraft is a great analogy for that (sorry if you don\u0027t know the game, but it\u0027s basically a 3d chess or something). In Starcraft, you have an economy and with that you build an army and try to overcome your oponnent. You can choose to try and boost your economy to have a bigger army later on, but this might cost you the game, if you don\u0027t have defences ready when the enemy attacks.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nSo it\u0027s natural that a lot of low\/medium level players use rushes\/all ins to try and overcome their opponents quickly. They build a small army as fast as possible and attack, without ever growing their economy, or building it very little. On higher levels, people generally know how to defend those attacks, so they are used rarely, and usually people build up their economies naturally and then fight.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nSo it\u0027s only natural to think that this rush style would be like direct game, going for the throat fast, and the usual \u0022macro\u0022 style would be like indirect game, and then direct game is for amateurs and indirect game is the real deal, being used by the guys that have good game and want the best results.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nBut what happens in Starcraft is that even the best of players still go for aggressive plays sometimes. In fact, being too predictable is a death sentence, as your opponent can just blindly counter your style and easily win, so even players known for their \u0022macro\u0022 play have a few dirty \u0022cheeses\u0022 (rushes) up theur sleeves. Now, of course this doesn\u0027t necessarily translates easily to game as an analogy, but it still shows that blindly going for some sort of style is suboptimal, at best, since the situations you encounter are always different. A beautiful girl might be into and horny and you may be trying to game her indirectly, which may be going fine, but then another guy could sweep in and be more aggressive and she may end up in bed with him instead, even though maybe she liked you more, just because you didn\u0027t quite put yourself out there.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nEven on Starcraft, there are top level players that are super aggressive in their play, and will use that aggression to transition into a longer game in which they have a decent advantage. Serral, a Finish prodigy, for example, lately has been opening almost all games with a build that is considered the earliest all in you can do, the 12 pool (or the \u0022Zerg rush\u0022 if you know what that is). So you would think, don\u0027t the best players know how to defend against that? And the answer, of course, is a yes, but the way Serral plays is to put pressure in his opponents from the beginning. He doesn\u0027t quite go all in most of the time (he still builds his economy after building his first little attack), but his early pressure many times allow him an edge over his opponents in a \u0022normal\u0022 game, because his unit control and multitasking are above almost anyone in the game (Starcraft is an strategy game, but it\u0027s in real time, so having quick reflexes is fundamental).\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nSo in game, I think a valid analogy for that would be fundamentals and other things that go into an opener (and interaction): it\u0027s not only the things or type of things you say to a girl that matter, but your body language, your voice, how attractive you look, and so on. There are many ways to say that a girl is beatiful, for example. I feel like when Alek says that you lose frame by opening direct, I totally disagree, you can come off totally chill and attractive even when complimenting a girl and make her chase if you do it in the right way. Of course, if you appear needy or too much into her, you\u0027re shooting yourself in the foot, and this is gonna either end your chances right away, or make your game an uphill battle, where you are chasing the girl, as Alek said. But I feel like direct openers can be as good as indirect, except for the attraction boost you get right away for showing intent directly, in a ballsy way, if done correctly.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nAlso, in the Starcraft analogy, Serral will some times get easy fast wins because his opponents fuck up in the initial defence, so just like said before, direct game can be supereffective in some situations.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nAlso, other than that, I feel like game is game, if you know what I mean. You open and start a conversation, great, but then you gotta make her hook (maybe flirt a bit before and as you go along), you gotta get compliance, move things forward, face objections if they appear and close. So I feel like the separation between direct and indirect game is not that big of a deal, really. In general, what changes is just how you transition from your opener into actually getting the girl, and of course, you could say that this generate different \u0022styles\u0022, but I think this is a but of an exageration really.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI feel like direct openers can be great if you know how to do them properly and they fit your personality, and I don\u0027t think they necessarilly put you in a bad position if you know how to transition.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\nI have nothing against Alek and I think he\u0027s got great game, I sure learned quite a bit from his articles, just to be clear.
