and tuned-in you are to other people. If he holds it, I\u0027ll hold it back. Whoever looks first needs to break first. If I accidentally looked first (not came near the eyes, but lookd at them) and the other person meets my eyes, I\u0027ll hold for a few moments, then look away to the side, then look back. It\u0027s a sort of dance of signaling you are not a threat. If it\u0027s a woman, after I break eye contact, I will often check her body out, then make eye contact again, and see how she responds. If she\u0027s throwing approach invitations and also stealing glances at me that\u0027s usually a blatant sign to approach. If she looks disgusted\/disinterested I\u0027ll assume it\u0027s not a match.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWIth men, if a guy looks first and holds it when I return eye contact, I\u0027ll just hold that until we\u0027re close, then give him a friendly nod and a slight smile. A lot of guys break eye contact at this point. Even if they don\u0027t, you\u0027ve signaled friendly intentions. Usually he\u0027ll do the same (and nod back).
