It can be hard to avoid, and one even might feel they have no alternatives; that they\u0027re stuck. If I just give a compliment while standing, from my experience she\u0027ll most likely be polite and thank me, but that\u0027s it.  On the other hand, if I ask to join the group, it may make them uncomfortable.  I suppose another strategy is getting my food next to the girls.  Then I get up, compliment the target and ask if I can join their group because I hate eating alone..  \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI\u0027ve approached one group of hotties while they were eating using this method and it actually turned out to be fun (though a little bit awkward at first).  \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAh, the other thing is that these girls are all much younger than me (I\u0027m an older grad student), so I may have to come in with a bit of high energy, directness and goofiness so that I just convey positive emotions and have them lower their defenses. But is sounds like you already do fine in the normal situations and have the framework more or less internalized, and that you are now working on making things more efficient and upping the number of approaches you do without drastically changing your schedule. So it may be time to loosen your approach formula up, break some of the rules you\u0027ve given yourself, and let yourself be more spontaneous. If you just stick to a couple different types of approaches that you are already comfortable with you\u0027re going to be missing opportunities that have a good chance of turning out well, since (or if) you\u0027ve got principles like the law of least effort internalized.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOftentimes the spontaneous approach works better than anything pre-planned. There\u0027s an attitude involved here. It\u0027s the difference between the guy who feels like by talking to a girl he is bringing her into his world, and the guy who, by talking to her, feels like he is trying to wheedle his way into her life, and that if he wasn\u0027t trying to impress her she wouldn\u0027t like him.
